By late monday Farmer Dave had join the "pool" party. He came with his soul mate, Allen, the Australian Bearded Dragon. Im not sure if these guys do much swimming back in Australia, but Allen seemed to definitely be enjoying himself. Farmer Dave and company, keeping it weird.

Farmer Dave and Allen, sharing a moment

BURGER BOYS, BEARDED DRAGONS, ALLAH-LAS, AND FARMER DAVE'S HOT NUTS, a diary of a lost desert weekend.

It started out innocently enough. I suggested to my friend Gabe, that he should come out and visit my girlfriend and I at my place in Joshua Tree. I had just spent a little over a week building a deck around one of my AIRSTREAM trailers to accommodate a stock tank pool that I wanted to use as a sort of dunk tank, until a real pool can be built on the property. To my surprise the whole thing turned out straight, level, and looked great. The water in the tank was nice and cool, and has a great aqua glow, enhanced from the reflective silver metal of the tank itself. So naturally, I really wanted to show and share my handy work now that it was all done. Gabe said he would come out with Lee from his label, BURGER RECORDS. Gabe is the singer and founder of his group, GAP DREAM. Gabe and Lee reminded me that it was Memorial Day weekend coming up, and that it was our mutual friend FARMER DAVE'S birthday party gathering at PAPPY AND HARRIETS. Gabe was going to play a solo set on Friday afternoon, with many other groups taking to the stage through out the evening, finishing up with the TYDE and then the ALLAH-LAS. What a fun weekend it was shaping up to be I thought. Then I heard from my old friend, REX THOMPSON (aka Tartarex, aka muse, legend, enigma, aka trouble) was going to be coming out with the boys from Burger. Well things were indeed going to be interesting now, and as it was beginning to get late on Thursday night, the BURGER RECORDS van came rumbling up the little dirt road to my house. The van door slide open and out came Rex moving slowly like a great Giant Sloth followed by the springy, mischievous, fox-like energy of GABE FULVIMAR. "Hey brother Sash, you alright, ouwhooo!" said Rex from out of the darkness as he gave me a big strong hug. The party had begun. And it would not end until late Monday night. By which time, different visitors had come and gone, Mat and Miles of the ALLAH-LAS joined in for some Saturday afternoon tub time, but by late monday, FARMER DAVE and his pet Australian Bearded Dragon named Allen were happily floating in the "pool", and Gabe had now decide to rent and move in to the AIRSTREAM for the entire month to come. Feeling the inspiration of this special spot and of many margaritas, he was certain that this would be the perfect place to write and record his next record. If this past weekend is anything to go by, I'm sure he is right, and I cant wait to hear what he comes up with. Here's to keeping it weird. Happy Memorial Day 2014 Photography by Sasha Eisenman
